Smart Organization Tips for a More Efficient Laundry Room

Whether you live in a huge house or a tiny apartment, you want to make the most of the space you have available. Even in the most spacious home, the laundry room is often cramped and inefficient, but there are things you can do to improve the layout and make the space more organized. Here are some tips you can use to make your laundry room easier to use.

  • Use water-resistant flooring in your laundry room. For obvious reasons, you need to make sure the flooring in your laundry room is both water-resistant and easy to clean. Modern hardwood floors are perfect for use in laundry rooms.
  • Use an existing closet for storage. If there is an existing closet in your laundry room, the job of organizing is more than half done. Just add a closet organizer with shelves to store your essentials.
  • Add bright colors to make the laundry room more appealing. The laundry room does not have to be dark and dank or dull and boring. Paint the space with bright primary colors, hang some vibrant artwork on the walls and watch your mood improve.
  • Keep things in place with modular storage bins. There are lots of little items in the average laundry room, and it is easy for them to get lost. Use modular storage bins and slide-out drawers to keep everything in its place.
  • Create extra space with a foldable ironing board and drying rack. A wall-mounted ironing board and drying rack will make your life easier and improve the efficiency of any laundry room.
  • Hide your hamper in a pull-out drawer. No one wants to look at an ugly laundry hamper, so why not hide it away? Look for hampers that can be cleverly hidden in a fold-out drawer to keep them out of sight when not in use.
  • Use under-cabinet lighting. Under-cabinet task lighting can really brighten up the space and make your washer and dryer easier to operate. Use plug-in LED light strips where electrical outlets are available and battery-operated alternatives where there is no outlet around.
  • Install a slatted wall and use hanging baskets for organization. Slatted walls are popular in commercial garages and manufacturing plants, but they are also perfect for laundry rooms. Once the wall is in place, you can use hanging storage bins to store laundry room essentials like detergents and fabric softeners.
  • Add a pedestal for your washer and dryer. Consider placing your washer and dryer on top of pedestal storage drawers. These storage drawers are perfect for stowing folded laundry and keeping frequently used items handy.
  • Make sure the shut-off valve is clearly marked and easily visible. You hope you will never have to use it, but if you do you will be happy the shut-off valve is clearly marked and easy to access
  • Add a message board. If you have a large family with scattered schedules, a message board is the perfect solution. You can use the message board to remind the kids to put their dirty clothes in the hamper or hound your teens to pick up their laundry and return it to their bedrooms.

No matter what kind of place you call home, the laundry room is one of the most important spaces in your home. Whether you love laundry day or look at it with dread, creating a more efficient laundry room will make your life a lot easier.

Tips For Creating A Nursery That's Both Practical And Stylish

When I had my first child, I was so excited at the prospect of becoming a mum that I went overboard decorating the nursery. It gave me something to focus on as I awaited the arrival of my daughter, and the finished room was stylish with clean lines, custom-made wall art and designer linens. However, when it came to using the nursery, I realised I had put style before practicality, and I hadn't thought about where I would store nappies or how I would reach clean bodysuits when my baby was sick and being cradled in my arms. So, I started this blog to share what I learned from my own mistakes, and I write posts detailing how to create a nursery that's functional without compromising on style. I hope you find my blog useful and enjoyable.
